Amanda is addicted to gambling on the horses, so much so that she has got herself deep into debt and been to borrow from a loan shark to pay it off. The problem, of course, is that the gambling has not stopped and now the loan shark wants his money back, with interest. As a last resort, Amanda goes to talk to Dave and asks if he can bail her out of trouble. He points out that, even if he did, she would only get herself back into the same situation. He decides that she needs a deterrent, something humiliating enough that might give her pause next time she thinks about betting at the races. His condition for loaning the money is simple: Amanda must strip off all her clothes in front of him and stand there naked.
